SENILE LENTIGO

Senile lentigo is a condition linked to the aging of the skin.
In general the areas affected exhibit an increased density of the cells involved in production of melanin (melanocytes), with abnormal local accumulation of the pigment. They appear with greater frequency in people over 50 years of age, of both sexes: indeed, the skin in these people the rate of epidermal cell proliferation slows down over the years. Both appear as isolated dark patches, mostly roundish in shape, with colour varying from yellow, hazelnut brown to brown, and range in size from a few mm up to 1 cm and more, located in the areas most exposed to the sun, in particular on the backs of the hands, the forearms, the neckline, the shoulders down to the back and on the face.
